Become a Ringer

We have a regular team of ringers at St Leonard’s but we would like to teach more people to ring to keep the ancient art of change ringing going and the bells ringing out from the tower of St Leonard’s.

Bell ringing is a fascinating hobby, a team activity and something that exercises both your body and your brain. You would start a lifelong learning experience and make a lot of new friends. You would be preserving a Wortley tradition and serving your Church.

For more information on ringing pick up a leaflet in the church or go to the website of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers. St Mary’s Ecclesfield is a CCCBR recognised ringing centre, have a look at their website too:

If you or anyone you know is interested in learning Change Ringing, we can teach you.  You could come to one of our practice nights (Thursday 7.30pm) to see what we do and meet us.  Alternatively, we ring the bells for Sunday morning service and you can come to see us then.  Finally, if you would like to have a look around the tower, meet one or two ringers and have a go at ringing under close supervision our Tower Captain will meet you at a time that is convenient.  If you decide it’s not for you at least you will know more about ringing and you will have had a tour of the tower.  Contact us by email at: or on our team mobile phone number 07851727306 where you can leave a message and we will call you back.

Young people can learn to ring from age 11 onwards but must attend with a parent or carer for the first lessons so that you can see what is involved. We have a child protection policy.
